In a statement Friday, the Republican National Committee (RNC) said it had voted in favor of the change that will allow women voters to participate in the party’s nominating process.
“This is a milestone in the development of our party, and one that we can be proud of,” RNC Chairman Reince Priebus said.
“Women deserve the right to vote, and our party has never failed to recognize that.”
“It’s not about the man, it’s about the woman.
It’s about our party.
We have never denied women the right or the right of self-determination.
Women have never had a better opportunity to be heard, to be represented in our party.”
The RNC statement added that it has a long history of standing up for women and women’s interests.
It added that the RNC is committed to ensuring that women are empowered to vote and the party remains a home for every woman.
RNC chairman Reince is expected to formally announce the change on Thursday.
